"Strategic" establishes a $1.59 billion reserve to purchase Bitcoin and support its liquidity.
"Strategy" (formerly known as MicroStrategy), the company led by Michael Saylor, announced the creation of a new $1.59 billion cash reserve in US dollars, aiming to bolster its financial resilience amidst pressures facing its traditional financing model.
Key uses and objectives of the new reserve:
Financing flexibility: It provides an additional source of liquidity, eliminating the company's total reliance on issuing new equity or debt.
Versatile applications: It can be used to purchase Bitcoin, repay debt and convertible bonds, repurchase shares, and fund dividend payments.
Complementing the original reserve: It operates alongside the existing $5.1 billion reserve, which is dedicated exclusively to servicing preferred stock dividends and debt interest.
This move coincides with a rebound in the company’s stock and Bitcoin’s rise toward the $80,000 level; despite this rally, the premium at which the stock trades relative to its Bitcoin holdings remains below the record levels seen in previous bull cycles, prompting management to adopt a more conservative and diversified approach.
