Bitcoin’s August Surge Leaves Traders Eyeing a Possible Bart Simpson Reversal

Bitcoin’s price action over the last month has sparked a new discussion among technical analysts. After a rapid climb that began around August 19, the cryptocurrency surged from roughly $64,420 to a high of about $80,700 by August 25 – a 25 % gain in just six days. The rally was fueled in part by a $2.05 billion inflow into U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs across six consecutive trading sessions, which triggered a short‑squeeze that lifted the token back to the $80,000 mark before the momentum began to fade.

Traders have been watching the chart for a classic “Bart Simpson” pattern, a colloquial term for a sudden spike followed by a period of sideways trading and then a sharp pullback to the original level. While Bitcoin has completed the first two legs—climbing from the low of $64,420 to the peak near $80,700 and then consolidating—no decisive reversal has yet materialised.

On September 2, the price was hovering around $77,281, trading near a $77,500 support zone. This retreat has sharpened speculation that the final leg of the pattern could be imminent, but the move remains gradual rather than the rapid drop that characterises a true Bart Simpson reversal.

The pattern is not an official technical indicator; it is an informal chart shape that has been discussed in the crypto community since at least 2015. Analysts note that similar rapid rises followed by consolidation can occur without a subsequent steep decline, so the pattern should be interpreted with caution.

As Bitcoin continues to trade in a narrow range, market participants are keeping a close eye on whether the asset will eventually retrace to its August low or if the rally will persist.
