India Records August Fuel Consumption Dip Amid Mixed Sectoral Performance
India’s total fuel consumption experienced a 2.8% year-on-year decline in August, with total demand reaching 18.61 million metric tons according to the latest figures from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC). Despite the overall contraction, the transport sector showed resilience; gasoline sales climbed 8.2% to 3.84 million metric tons, and diesel consumption rose by 6.8% to 7.02 million metric tons. Infrastructure development remained a bright spot, as bitumen sales surged by 19.8%. Conversely, the energy sector faced headwinds, with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sales dropping 17.2% to 2.35 million metric tons and naphtha demand falling 22.3% to 0.83 million metric tons. Fuel oil usage saw a modest gain of 4.8% during the month.
