Gold Prices Surge in Pakistan as Global Markets Rally Ahead of US Labor Data
Domestic gold prices in Pakistan experienced a significant climb on Wednesday, with the cost of 24-karat gold rising by Rs10,000 to reach Rs437,936 per tola. Similarly, 10-gram gold saw an increase of Rs8,573, settling at Rs375,459. This domestic uptick aligns with a broader global rally, driven by a softer US dollar and anticipation surrounding upcoming American employment reports. In international markets, December gold futures climbed 4% to $4,317.40 per ounce. Investors are currently focused on key labor indicators, such as the ADP and non-farm payrolls data, which may influence the Federal Reserve's future interest rate trajectory. Lower borrowing costs typically bolster gold, as the metal becomes more attractive when interest-bearing assets lose their appeal. Additionally, a cooling inflation outlook and stable energy prices have further supported bullion demand. While global volatility persists, the Pakistani rupee remained steady, with the State Bank of Pakistan recording the US dollar at Rs277.75. Analysts suggest that local gold rates will likely remain elevated as long as international sentiment stays sensitive to US economic policy shifts.
