Euro Slides to 17‑Month Low, Targets 1.11 Support
The euro fell to a 17‑month low of 1.1187 against the U.S. dollar, slipping 0.29% after a brief rally earlier in the day. The pair is now testing the 1.11 level, a key psychological support that could dictate the next move.
The decline comes amid a stronger dollar, buoyed by higher U.S. Treasury yields and a robust economic outlook. The euro’s weakness is also reflected in the broader euro‑zone markets, with the EGX 30 index down 1.05% at 51,069.45.
In commodity markets, gold traded at $4,189.61, up 0.43%, while silver rose 0.52% to $60.825. Crude oil prices fell: WTI slid 1.78% to $92.07 and Brent 1.54% to $105.01. Copper and aluminium were largely flat, with copper up 0.09% to $6.7533 and aluminium down 0.31% to $3,038.30. Natural gas slipped 0.57% to $3.149.
Major equity indices showed mixed activity: the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.38% to 51,850.55, the DAX rose 0.49% to 25,402.39, and Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 1.68% to 67,870.00.
The euro’s path to 1.11 will be closely watched by traders, as a break below could signal a shift to a more bearish stance, while holding above may reinforce the current trend of gradual recovery.
