Central Bank of Syria Governor Safwat Raslan discussed with representatives of Germany's Commerzbank ways to enhance confidence between Syrian banks and their international counterparts, and to support trade and investment exchange between Syria and Germany through stable banking channels.
The Syrian Central Bank said that during a joint meeting held at the bank's headquarters in Damascus, the executive steps and reforms being worked on by the central bank to develop the banking and monetary sector in Syria were reviewed, as well as strengthening banking supervision and combating money laundering and terrorist financing.
The meeting also examined Commerzbank's orientation in its foreign dealings, and the importance of providing reliable and stable banking channels that facilitate trade and investment exchange between Syria and Germany, according to Syrian news agency SANA.
According to the Syrian central bank, this meeting is part of its efforts to expand communication with international banks, financial institutions and regulatory bodies, and to encourage them to visit Syria and learn about the reality of Syrian banks and the developments they are undergoing, contributing to addressing accumulated concerns, enhancing confidence and expanding international banking cooperation.
Commerzbank is the second largest commercial bank in Germany, the main partner for German medium-sized companies, the largest financer of foreign trade in Germany, and manages assets exceeding 400 billion euros for individuals and small businesses, with branches and offices in more than 50 countries worldwide.
