Spain’s EU‑Harmonised Inflation Hits 5% in September, Highest Level Since 2019
Spain’s final 12‑month EU‑harmonised inflation rate for September rose to 5.0%, the highest level the country has recorded since 2019, according to data released by the Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE). The figure, calculated using the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), reflects a broad‑based increase in consumer prices driven largely by higher energy and food costs. The 5.0% rate sits well above the European Central Bank’s 2% target, underscoring the persistence of inflationary pressures across the eurozone. With inflation above the ECB’s goal, policymakers are likely to maintain a cautious stance on monetary policy, while the Spanish government may explore measures to mitigate the impact on households facing a higher cost of living.
