Trump Allies Prepare to Take Ukraine Talks to Kyiv After Moscow Meeting

Steve Witkoff, a longtime Trump business partner, and Jared Kushner, the former senior adviser, are set to travel from Moscow to Kyiv as the president’s new peace envoys. The pair met with Vladimir Putin on Saturday in the Kremlin, where they discussed concrete next steps toward ending the war in Ukraine. A White House spokesperson said the envoys will announce their proposals in the coming weeks and are looking forward to productive meetings in Ukraine tomorrow.

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov described the discussion as “highly useful,” noting that the envoys outlined several potential pathways to settlement over more than three hours of talks. Putin told them that Russia was making “real progress” on the battlefield and was confident of achieving its objectives, while emphasizing the need to address “all the root causes of the conflict.”

The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, warned that Russian strikes on Kyiv and Boryspil international airports were a “clear reaction” to the U.S. envoys’ arrival in Kyiv after the Moscow talks. He said Kyiv would adjust its operations next week in response to the heightened danger in Russian airspace caused by Ukrainian drones and missiles.

The war, which began with Russia’s full‑scale invasion in February 2022, has intensified recent airstrikes while front lines remain largely static. Both sides had agreed not to strike each other’s capitals for three days during the negotiations, a pause that has now ended.

Trump, who has made ending the war a priority during his second term, hinted on Friday that he had a new proposal, though no details were released. He said his son‑in‑law and business ally were bringing a “proposal to end the war.”

With civilian casualties mounting and millions displaced, the international community watches closely as the U.S. envoys move from Moscow to Kyiv in a bid to revive diplomatic momentum.
