Oil Slides 2% as Saudi Supply Concerns Ease Amid Middle East Tensions
On Friday, September 18 2026, global oil markets slipped by roughly 2 %, extending a losing streak that now spans three consecutive trading days. Brent crude futures fell $2.30, or 2.2 %, to $102.53 a barrel at 06:36 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) dropped $1.85, or 1.8 %, to $100.04 a barrel. The decline marks Brent’s first weekly loss in three weeks.
The downturn was largely driven by a softening of fears that Saudi Arabia would face significant export disruptions. Recent reports suggest the kingdom has begun restoring partial production capacity, dampening concerns about a sudden supply shock. This relief in supply expectations outweighed continued worries about the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
Despite the easing of supply anxieties, market participants remain wary of the broader geopolitical backdrop, keeping a cautious stance on future price movements. The current slide reflects a blend of improved supply outlooks and persistent regional tension, underscoring the complex interplay between geopolitical events and commodity pricing.
