In figures.. what is the importance of trade exchange between Qatar and China?

On Tuesday, Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the second day of his visit to the Chinese capital, Beijing. This visit highlights the great importance of the relationship between the two countries at various levels.

Following the meeting, Wang said that the strategic partnership between China and Qatar has made "great progress" in recent years, according to China's official Xinhua News Agency, adding that China is "the most reliable long-term partner in Qatar's development journey."

Qatar supplies China with about 30% of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) it consumes, according to the Anadolu Agency. However, the US-Israeli war on Iran has disrupted navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of global energy supplies passed before the outbreak of the war. The strait represents a vital artery for transporting gas and oil to major economies in Asia, led by China, which has the world's second-largest economy.

Qatari government data shows that in 2025, Qatar's trade surplus with China—which represents the difference between exports and imports of goods—reached approximately 36 billion Qatari riyals (about 10 billion dollars).

In this context, the State of Qatar called for the immediate and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as an international waterway, reaffirming its rejection of using it as a tool of pressure. It stated that it is working with its regional and international partners to resume diplomacy and dialogue and to de-escalate tensions in the region.
