European Shares Rise as Falling Oil Prices Boost Market Sentiment
European equity markets edged higher on Tuesday as a decline in oil prices helped lift investor sentiment. The benchmark FTSE 100 gained 0.5%, while Germany’s DAX and France’s CAC 40 added 0.4% and 0.3% respectively. The rally was largely driven by lower energy costs, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude falling 1.78% to $92.07 and Brent crude dropping 1.48% to $105.07.
Commodity prices reflected the same trend. Gold traded at $4,186.96, up 0.36% (US$15.19), while silver rose 0.39% to $60.748. Copper edged up 0.23% to $6.7625, whereas aluminium slipped 0.21% to $3,041.50. Natural gas prices were almost unchanged, falling 0.16% to $3.162.
Analysts note that the decline in oil prices has reduced production and operating costs for many European firms, improving earnings outlooks and encouraging buying in the equity market. The positive momentum is expected to continue as long as energy prices remain subdued.
