Qatar Launches Local Investment Division in Sovereign Wealth Fund
Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) was established in 2005 with a charter focused on deploying capital abroad, but has strengthened its domestic presence in recent years, contributing to the development of companies that have become national leaders, including Qatar Airways, Qatar National Bank, Ooredoo Communications, Qatar Diar, and Katara Hospitality, the owner of hotels.
Sheikh Faisal said the new division’s responsibilities also include strengthening and building new leading national companies, supporting privatization, expanding private‑sector participation, and diversifying Qatar’s economy. He added that Doha Investment will be an active, long‑term partner for companies listed in its portfolio, working alongside management teams to open new avenues of value and support their growth and competitiveness at both regional and international levels.
The site also notes that Doha Investment will manage the local investment portfolio of QIA, including established leading national companies such as the Qatar Airways Group, QNB Group, Ooredoo Group, Qatar Diar, Katara Hospitality, and Harvest Foods—companies that compete globally while delivering significant economic value to the Qatari economy.
At launch, Doha Investment’s portfolio will include more than 40 companies, whose services and products reach over 80 markets worldwide. Its portfolio covers key economic sectors such as financial services, transportation and logistics, communications and technology, real estate, hospitality, and food and agriculture. More than 20 of these companies recorded revenues exceeding 1 billion Qatari riyals (about US$274 million) in 2025.
Doha Investment aims to build new leading companies in promising, priority sectors, including advanced technologies, manufacturing, supply chains, and healthcare. This includes the Qai platform—a national AI platform created to enable and scale trustworthy AI applications across businesses and society.
Doha Investment will support the creation of high‑skill jobs, build more resilient local supply chains, and develop national talent. By increasing the number of high‑value companies, Doha Investment will help deepen Qatar’s financial markets and cement the country’s position as a destination for international investors and high‑growth companies.
