Deutsche Bank has warned that the so‑called "AI dollar" is now a reality, citing the rapid rise of algorithmic trading that is reshaping currency flows. The benchmark US dollar index (DXY) is trading near 104.2, up 0.4% from the previous close, a level that has not been seen since early 2023.

The rally is mirrored in the commodities markets. Gold fell to $3,875.55 per ounce, down 145.84 ($3.63) or 3.63% from the previous session. Silver slipped to $49.140, a drop of 3.250 ($6.20) or 6.20%. Crude oil is also in decline: WTI slipped to $102.95, down 0.95 ($0.93) or 0.93%, while Brent fell to $113.10, down 2.30 ($2.08) or 2.08%. Copper and aluminium are on the move, trading at $6.51 (down 0.09 or 1.41%) and $3,059.70 (down 11.55 or 0.38%) respectively. Natural gas slid to $2.883, down 0.069 ($2.34) or 2.34%.

Analysts suggest that the surge in AI‑powered trading has amplified short‑term volatility, pushing the dollar higher against a backdrop of mixed commodity sentiment. Deutsche Bank’s latest research indicates that institutional flows are increasingly being routed through algorithmic platforms, accelerating the pace of currency appreciation.

Investors are advised to monitor the interplay between AI‑driven market dynamics and traditional macroeconomic indicators as the year progresses.
