Toyota to Deploy 400,000 Robots, Commit $6.4 Billion Annually to Factory Automation Starting 2028
Toyota Motor Corp has outlined a bold plan to modernise its manufacturing footprint by investing roughly ¥1 trillion (about $6.4 billion) each year from 2028 onward. The capital will fund the rollout of around 400,000 robots—both industrial units and humanoid models—across Toyota’s own plants, its group companies and key suppliers. The initiative aims to upgrade aging infrastructure, reduce operating costs and mitigate labour shortages that have become increasingly acute in the automotive sector. Industry analysts view this move as a strategic pivot that could open new revenue streams beyond traditional vehicle production, positioning Toyota at the forefront of the next wave of manufacturing automation.
