China to Inject $54 Billion into State‑Owned Banks and Insurers

The Chinese government has approved a capital injection of $54 billion (about 3.6 trillion yuan) into its state‑owned banking and insurance sector. The move, announced by the State Administration of Foreign Exchange and the Ministry of Finance, is designed to shore up liquidity, support domestic lending and cushion the sector against the global slowdown. Funds will be allocated to the Big Four banks—Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Construction Bank, Agricultural Bank of China and Bank of China—as well as major insurers such as China Life and China Pacific Insurance. Analysts say the injection will help maintain credit flow to small and medium‑sized enterprises and bolster confidence in the financial system.
