Euro Weakens Amid French Political Uncertainty; Dollar Gains as Equity Markets Recover
The euro slipped 0.43% against the dollar, falling to 1.07 USD, as investors reacted to fresh political turmoil in France. The U.S. dollar strengthened, buoyed by a rebound in equity markets that saw major indices climb after a week of volatility.
In the commodities arena, gold fell 0.43% to $4,122.56 per ounce, while silver edged higher 0.50% to $57.56. Crude oil continued its upward trend, with WTI crude trading at $99.82 per barrel (+1.30%) and Brent at $110.88 (+1.21%). Copper rose 0.25% to $6.5920 per pound, whereas aluminum slid 0.52% to $3,014.05 per ton. Natural gas prices declined 1.77%, settling at $3.004 per million British thermal units.
Analysts note that the euro’s decline reflects growing uncertainty over France’s political landscape, while the dollar’s rally is partly driven by a return to risk‑on sentiment in the stock market. Market watchers will continue to monitor both geopolitical developments and corporate earnings reports for further clues on currency and commodity movements.
