Dynacom Tankers Reports Dual Projectile Strikes on Vessels Off Oman Amid Heightened Hormuz Tensions

Greek shipping operator Dynacom Tankers confirmed that two of its managed tankers were struck by unidentified projectiles on Monday while navigating the waters off Oman. The first vessel, the Malta‑flagged Panamax tanker Kavomaleas, sustained two impacts that ignited a fire in its engine room. After activating the onboard fire suppression system, the master ordered an evacuation. All crew members were rescued by Omani authorities and safely transferred ashore. The incident occurred roughly eight nautical miles northwest of Kumzar and the vessel was en route to load oil products in the Gulf.

A second vessel, the Liberian‑flagged Very Large Crude Carrier Acheloos, also suffered a projectile hit. The ship’s crew are unharmed and the vessel has taken anchor for assessment. Acheloos, which can carry up to two million barrels of oil, has not reported any pollution.

Marisks, a Greek maritime security firm, stated that both Kavomaleas and Acheloos were struck at virtually the same time while transiting the U.S.‑facilitated southern Hormuz corridor. The incidents come amid renewed flare‑ups between U.S. forces and Iran, with Iranian Revolutionary Guards claiming earlier that two oil tankers “exploded” after attempting an unsafe southern route through the Strait of Hormuz. It remains unclear whether Dynacom’s attacks are linked to those claims.

Separately, Dynacom’s third managed tanker, Asia, was hit by a drone at Russia’s Novorossiysk CPC terminal in the Black Sea early Monday. The crew extinguished a fire aboard, and no environmental damage has been reported. The vessel is currently anchored while damage assessments continue.

These events underscore the escalating risks to commercial shipping in the strategically vital Hormuz region and the broader Black Sea corridor.
